How to hide the Claude sidebar, or just the parts you don't use
Updated
Short answer
Claude can't switch the sidebar off completely: according to Claude's help center, it can only be opened or closed. To hide single links or buttons in it, use an extension: in ChatTheme, click Pick in the side panel, point at the parts you never use and send, or type "hide the Projects link". One way to open the sidebar always stays, and every tweak is one click to undo.
Hide parts of claude.ai by pointing at them
ChatTheme turns what you picked into a tweak and checks that the page still works, so you never write any CSS.
- 1
Install ChatTheme
Add ChatTheme to Chrome, Edge, Brave or Arc from the Chrome Web Store and sign in (free).
- 2
Apply any theme
On claude.ai, open the ChatTheme side panel and click a theme. Tweaks are saved with the theme you use.
- 3
Click Pick
In the Create tab, click Pick, then click the parts of the page you want gone. ↑ selects the box around it, ↓ goes back. Press Done or Enter when you're finished.
- 4
Send
Send with an empty message to hide what you picked, or say what should happen instead ("move it to the bottom", "make it smaller").
Or just ask
Describe it in the Create tab instead: "hide the Projects link", "hide the upgrade banner", "make the sidebar narrower". If the AI isn't sure which part you mean, it asks you to point at it.
Undo a tweak
Every tweak is listed under Customize › Site tweaks with a remove button. Alt+Shift+T switches all of ChatTheme off at once, tweaks included; press it again to bring everything back.
What ChatTheme sees
To find the part you mean, ChatTheme sends the names of the page's buttons, links and labels along with your request. It never sends your conversation titles, your messages, what you're typing, or your name or email. Tweaks stay yours: themes you share or install from the community never carry them.
