How to change the font in ChatGPT
Updated
Short answer
ChatGPT has no built-in font setting. To make text bigger or smaller on the web, use browser zoom (Ctrl or Cmd with + and −); the Windows app also has a Text size control. To change the typeface itself, use an extension such as ChatTheme, which can set ChatGPT's font to serif, monospace, pixel, typewriter and more.
Change the text size
On chatgpt.com, browser zoom is the simplest option: Ctrl + and Ctrl − on Windows and Linux, Cmd + and Cmd − on a Mac, Ctrl/Cmd 0 to reset. Chrome remembers the zoom level per site, so ChatGPT stays at your size.
The ChatGPT Windows app has a Text size (zoom) control in its settings. The web app and the Mac app don't.
Change the typeface
OpenAI's appearance settings cover light/dark mode, contrast and accent colour, but not fonts. You can override the font with a userstyle (for example in Stylus), but those rules target ChatGPT's internal class names and need fixing whenever the site changes.
ChatTheme does it without code. Each theme sets the chat font, and the Customize tab lets you change it on any theme. All fonts are bundled inside the extension, so nothing is downloaded while you chat.
- 1
Install ChatTheme
Add ChatTheme from the Chrome Web Store (works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc).
- 2
Open the side panel on chatgpt.com
Click the ChatTheme icon in the browser toolbar.
- 3
Choose a font
Pick a theme with the type you like, then fine-tune the font in the Customize tab, or ask the Create tab for something like “typewriter font, cream paper”.
Fonts you can use
ChatTheme's fonts include a serif for long reading (the Paper theme), monospace and the VT323 terminal face (Green and Amber Terminal), a Windows 95-style pixel sans, Press Start 2P pixel type, ChicagoFLF (a free remake of the classic Mac system font), Courier Prime typewriter, Tahoma and Lucida Grande-style system fonts, and a rounded sans. Readability is protected: every theme keeps text contrast at 4.5:1 or better.
